COVID-19 changes

By Stephanie Burton, Macaroni Kid Riverside Publisher March 13, 2020

In light of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) changing our lives a bit for the next couple weeks I will be changing my focus from sharing all the events around town to sharing ideas to keep the kids busy at home and hopefully a few tips for not going too stir crazy. I will do my best to update the calendar on my site as I hear of cancelations, but please remember to check events before attending. As of March 12th, 2020 storytimes at Riverside Libraries (including playdates at Orange Terrace) have been suspended until further notice. RUSD is still in session for now. They have canceled all non-essential field trips, non-essential school events, visual and performing arts events, athletic events, clubs and after school events provided by community vendors. Teachers and staff will not be participating in trainings, professional development, or conferences (even virtual.) Events such at picture day and book fairs will be canceled as well. You can find updates on the RUSD website as well. If you have questions about Coronavirus and your kiddos there is a FAQ page on the CDC website, not fun and colorful for them but our information for you! There is also lots of information on the World Health Organization for you to access. If your kids have questions about Coronavirus there is a video and lesson available on Brainpop. I think it is very well done but view it before your younger kids to be sure you want to share it with them. Brainpop is offering free access to their website to students who attend schools that are closed, this is a great resource to keep them learning while out of school! I will do my best to keep you busy, even if it's at home. If there is something specific that will help your family manage this upset reach out we can brainstorm something for our community to come together. Remember to be kind to one another, we are all in this together and our children model our behavior.
